Tell us about your degree - why did you choose it? What elements of the degree inspired you to study it?
I chose the Leeds MBA because of the institution's academic reputation. The MBA programme was well structured. I had never done a dissertation previously so I wanted to challenge myself and give it a go!
What was the best part of your studies here? What did you enjoy the most?
The best part of the MBA was my colleagues: they are well-respected professionals from all over the world. I learnt a lot from them, just as much as I learnt from the curriculum itself.
What were your career aspirations when you arrived? Do you think the experience and skills you gained here will help/helped you in your future career plans? In what way?
I wanted to work in healthcare management. I secured my current job before I completed the MBA as a clinical quality manager. This MBA did make a huge difference to my life, and progressed my career the way I wanted.
How has your career progressed since leaving the Business School? Have there been any notable highlights?
In the first week of my new job, I was assigned to be a project lead within my organisation. This was a huge responsibility as well as a great opportunity. I got to apply the knowledge I learnt from the MBA program from day one, and I knew I could do my job very well.
Where are you currently working, and what is your role?
I am the clinical quality manager in an organisation that provides after-hours GP services in South East and South West London.
What are your ambitions for the future?
Be a great leader that makes a positive difference to others.
Do you think your experience and skills gained here will help you in your future career plans? In what way?
Before I started the Leeds MBA, I had no idea about business administration or how to run a business. I learnt so much in one year's time, such as accounting and finance, human resources management, organisational behaviour. To my surprise I started applying those theories and concepts into my work from day one. I am certain that I will have more opportunities to apply my knowledge confidently and competently in the future.
If you are not from the UK, how was the transition to a foreign country? Did the university offer support or services that you found helpful? Can you offer any advice?
I came from Australia. The University supported me in my visa application, accommodation, getting my student card, rail card etc. Don't be afraid to ask - the staff are there to help you!
What was your impression/experience of the facilities, the staff, your peers, the student union, the City of Leeds and the region itself? What would you recommend to future students?
It was a year that I will remember for life. The whole experience could not have been any better. The academic staff are very knowledgeable and always willing to provide guidance. The support staff work very hard to make sure the programme runs smoothly. If not, they will promptly attend to get things right.
Leeds is a great city; you can walk or take public transport to most places. I would recommend future students to explore Leeds and its beautiful surroundings. There is a lot to see and experience, make sure you don't miss out!
What would you say is your defining memory of studying here? (eg friendships made, confidence in your abilities, or any single event that you will always remember?) And would you recommend the Business School to others
The defining moment is definitely the lasting friendships with my peers. There was a lot of hard work, but we also shared many great moments together. We had lots of social events, and got to know each other very well. Even though many of us are in different places around the world, but we are only a phone call or an email away from each other. I would strongly recommend others to study at Leeds University Business School. It's really great and I am so glad I came to study here.
