Tell us about your degree - why did you choose it?
I chose to study Marketing Management with Advertising because marketing has always been a field I am passionate about. Since my undergraduate studies, I have been fascinated by how brands communicate their values through creative campaigns and meaningful messages. I wanted to build a stronger understanding of marketing strategy and advertising so I could turn my interest into professional expertise.
What did you enjoy the most about your course?
What I enjoyed most about the course was how it combined marketing theory with real world business case studies. Rather than focusing only on textbooks, the lecturers encouraged us to analyse real brand campaigns and industry events, which challenged us to think critically, understand consumer behaviour, and develop practical marketing solutions. I particularly enjoyed exploring how branding and advertising work together to build meaningful connections with consumers.
Another highlight was studying with classmates from different countries and professional backgrounds. Our group discussions gave us the opportunity to share diverse perspectives, brainstorm together, and challenge each other's ideas. The excellent library facilities and collaborative study spaces also created a great environment for teamwork, making it easy to exchange ideas and learn from one another both inside and outside the classroom.
How did you find adjusting to living and studying in the UK?
Moving to the UK was a big step for me, and adapting to a new culture and learning environment was both challenging and exciting. At the beginning, I needed time to adjust to a different academic style, particularly the emphasis on independent thinking, critical analysis, and expressing my own perspectives.
Completing my dissertation became one of the most rewarding parts of my academic journey, as it allowed me to apply research methods, conduct interviews, explore a topic in depth, and build confidence in developing my own arguments. The support from my lecturers and access to excellent library resources also helped me overcome challenges and become more comfortable with the UK education system.
What professional skills and experience did you gain?
I gained a deeper understanding of marketing strategy, brand management, digital marketing, social media, and consumer behaviour. Coming from an apparel industry background, the course helped me see marketing from a wider perspective, beyond product development, and understand how brands build connections with consumers.
How has your career progressed since leaving the Business School?
Since graduating, I have successfully transitioned into a Marketing Assistant role in the UK, turning my goal of working in marketing into reality. As my role has grown, I have taken ownership of the company's UK marketing activities, including email campaigns, social media management, exhibition planning, brand research, and exhibition stand design. I also work closely with the team to plan our annual marketing strategy and campaigns. This role has given me the opportunity to put what I learned at Leeds into practice every day. It is rewarding to see ideas develop into real marketing campaigns and to know that I am contributing to the company's growth while doing work I genuinely enjoy.
What are your ambitions for the future?
My ambition is to take on greater responsibility for impactful marketing campaigns that drive business growth and sales. I hope to bring more creative ideas to life, develop marketing strategies that make a real impact, and continue growing as a marketing professional.
What was your biggest highlight of studying at Leeds?
My biggest highlight was the friendships I made and the opportunity to become more involved in the Leeds community. Serving as an Intercultural Ambassador and working as an International Welcome Assistant allowed me to meet people from all over the world, support new students, and give back to the university community.
Would you recommend Leeds University Business School?
Absolutely. Choosing the University of Leeds was one of the best decisions I have ever made. Although studying abroad came with challenges and required sacrifices, it gave me so much more in return. I gained lifelong friendships, unforgettable experiences, the confidence to pursue a marketing career in the UK, and memories that I will always treasure.
My advice is to say yes to every opportunity. Get involved in university activities, meet people from different cultures, and don't be afraid to step outside your comfort zone. Your time at Leeds will pass quickly, so make the most of every moment.
