Making connections, accelerating careers
The traditional MBA is a well-recognised academic degree for managers and professionals with work experience. But now the world is more connected, more challenging and dynamic. Employers want more from their managers – not simply knowledge and strategic thinking, but also leadership skills, commitment and creativity.
The Leeds MBA programme
The full-time MBA programme (Financial Times Global MBA Rankings, 2016) not only integrates business and management theory with practice, but it also puts great emphasis on your personal and professional development.
We have worked with our Leaders in Residence to develop an MBA that stretches you academically but also builds in you the key qualities expected of leaders including:
- commercial awareness
- interpersonal skills
- a genuine depth of understanding of the fundamental business functions
- a critical and questioning outlook.
The full-time programme features a set of challenges that allow you to apply what you have learned to significant business issues and for many of our students the MBA Project is the most exciting and rewarding part of their MBA experience.
You will gain an international outlook and build connections - helping you to become a global leader with cross-cultural work groups and our MBA international study tours. There is also plenty of opportunity to get to know your MBA colleagues socially.
We deliberately limit the total number of students in the cohort to make sure you are welcomed and supported as an individual, not just a number. At the same time we cultivate as diverse a group of students as possible, enabling you to meet fellow students from all over the globe with a wide range of experience and expertise. These interactions with people from different nationalities and cultures are a key element of your learning experience.
The combination of these elements will develop you intellectually, personally and professionally so that you take the unique ‘Leeds’ way of thinking into the workplace.
The Business School produces world-class, internationally relevant research. We are at the forefront of interdisciplinary research – where business meets the arts, science and engineering, politics, transport, social sciences, medicine and health.
Leeds University Business School has several leading research centres. The School boasts the UK’s premier research centre in International Business, the Centre for International Business at the University of Leeds. Led by Professor Peter Buckley OBE, it oversees the work of two other centres focusing on the major emerging nations – China and India – as well as conducting research for governments and businesses seeking to expand internationally.
Given Leeds’ position as a financial services hub, it’s not surprising that our academics working through our Institute for Banking and Investment, and the Credit Management Research Centre, are among the most respected in the UK.
Marketing is another area of excellence. Our Global and Strategic Marketing Research Centre is led by one of the UK’s foremost professors of marketing, Professor Costas Katsikeas. It specialises in global and strategic marketing, consumer behaviour, branding and communications.
As organisations and the nature of work change in an ultra-competitive marketplace, specialists from our Centre for Employment Relations, Innovation and Change work with employers and staff to develop effective working practices.
These are just a few of the research centres that make Leeds University Business School a top international business school and a stimulating place to hone your management knowledge and skills.
We believe that business isn't just about theory – you also need to understand how to apply it in practice. The Leeds MBA connects you to a network of highly experienced academics, practitioners, corporate partners and alumni.
You are tutored by Leeds University Business School academics who are passionate about developing critical thinkers – managers and leaders who don’t simply accept what they are told but can move their organisations forward with new ideas.
You have the chance to meet prominent external speakers and professionals through networking events such as our prestigious Corporate Wisdom Lecture Series.
The MBA Project and live challenges are other opportunities to grow your network further. We have extensive relationships with Marks & Spencer, IBM, Yorkshire Bank, Asda-Walmart, Lloyds Banking Group, KPMG, Accenture and the NHS, as well as small and medium enterprises, charities and social enterprises.
