Research and teaching
The Behaviour Lab supports innovative behavioural research and teaching across Leeds University Business School and the wider University of Leeds.
We work with researchers and educators to design, test and apply behavioural science using rigorous experimental methods. The Lab provides a dedicated environment for exploring how people think, decide and behave in real‑world contexts, supporting high‑quality research and enriching teaching across disciplines and subject areas.
The Behaviour Lab enables researchers and educators to move beyond traditional approaches, supporting work that benefits from experimental design, observation and controlled testing. Through this work, behavioural insight is embedded into both research activity and teaching practice.
Supporting research
The Behaviour Lab supports academic activity from early‑stage research design through to delivery and impact.
Colleagues use the Lab to:
- Design and test behavioural experiments and observational studies
- Explore complex questions that benefit from experimental or mixed‑methods approaches
- Enhance teaching through experiential and lab‑based learning
- Support undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral research projects
Through hands‑on engagement with behavioural methods, the Lab helps researchers, educators and students develop confidence in applying experimental approaches within both research and teaching contexts.
Collaboration and research culture
The Behaviour Lab supports collaboration across Leeds University Business School and the wider University by providing a shared space for behavioural research and teaching activity.
By bringing together expertise from different subject areas, the Lab supports research and teaching that reflects the complexity of real‑world behavioural challenges. This collaborative approach strengthens research design, enriches learning experiences and supports the development of robust, evidence‑based insight.
Supporting teaching
The lab also offers modules for both undergraduate and summer school students and delivers the chance to utilise the Business School’s Behaviour Lab, equipping them with the skills and knowledge to apply behavioural sciences in their careers and research.
Modules cover essential theories and concepts for careers in business, public policy, research, or consultancy.
