Students visit IBM Research Team at the Science and Technology Facilities Council

Members of the MSc Strategic Management in the Global Environment student cohort recently visited IBM's Research team at the Science and Technology Facilities Council's Hartree Centre at Daresbury near Warrington.

Accompanied by Tony Morgan, Industry Technical Leader at IBM and also a Royal Academy of Engineering Visiting Professor at the University of Leeds, the students attended a series of presentations and technology demos on topics such as cognitive computing and big data.

Discussion varied from areas such as deep scientific based research to the application of new technologies to address societal and business challenges and opportunities through innovation.

Tony was delighted with the feedback from the students: "The event created a real buzz with the students,” he said.

“They witnessed world class scientists discussing the practical application of science and technology to address real business challenges and the impact this has - from driving competitive advantage for companies, changing whole industries to huge advances in healthcare."
