Insights into the impact of stress on decision-making

Emeritus Professor John Maule, has appeared in two short videos published by the Economist discussing aspects of his research into human decision making.

In the first video entitled ‘How stress impacts decision-making’ Professor Maule explains why stress forces us to rely on intuitive and bias-prone thinking, and what decision-makers can do to mitigate the impact of stress on their decisions.

The second video entitled ‘Tough choices on the ocean’ sees record breaking long distance sailor, Hans Bouscholte, recount his experiences of making decisions under pressure. Professor Maule provides insights into how such stressful situations can influence our judgement and response to challenges.
