Dr Iain Clacher quoted in Yorkshire Post on impact of increased consumer borrowing

Associate Professor in Accounting and Finance, Iain Clacher, was quoted in an article in the Yorkshire Post, discussing the impact an increase in consumer borrowing could have on the UK’s economy. 

The article entitled "Get a grip on runaway credit or we face a second crash" looks at how a rise in consumption and personal debt could pose a risk to the UK financial system.

Dr Clacher said:

The UK economy is looking increasingly fragile…ultimately, there isn’t a lot of slack in an economy that requires such low interest rates, and for those who are just making ends meet, any increase in interest rates will be catastrophic.
