Tackling vaccine hesitancy: the way forward?

Description

This project is funded by the UKRI Policy Support Fund 2021/22.

Using the policy research fund, we aimed at constructing a vaccine perception index using data from a longitudinal household survey (Understanding Society COVID-19 study) between April 2020-March 2021. We had three objectives:

(1) Calculating a vaccine perception index following the concept of concentration index

(2) Comparing the vaccine perception index across gender, ethnicity, employment status, and financial condition

(3) Performing a decomposition analysis for vaccine perception index to explain the causes.

The vaccine perception index is a concentration index summarising the relationship between cumulative vaccine unwillingness and equivalent income. A negative value means the concentration curve lies above the line of equality, indicating a disproportionate concentration of vaccine unwillingness among the individuals with less household income.
