Description
This research explores the identity of Malaysian hospital nurses. Global nurse shortages result in many Malaysian hospital nurses fleeing the country to seek better employment elsewhere. Understanding the professional identity of novice nurses is crucial to prevent the early turnover of nurses.
This study was funded through the Michael Beverley Innovation Fellowship and a Sunway University Internal Grant Scheme number: GRTIN-IGS(02)-DMNGT-18-2023.
It aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goal 3: Health and Wellbeing.
Research overview
This qualitative research uses interviews to delineate the professional identity of Malaysian hospital nurses. Interviews with novice nurses were conducted in June, July and August 2024, and the data will be thematically analysed to construct themes representing the modern nursing professional identity of novice Malaysian hospital nurses. A journal article will be produced to advance the scientific knowledge about nurse identity.
