Academy of Social Sciences honour for Professor Wändi Bruine de Bruin

Professor Wandi Bruine de Bruin

Professor Wändi Bruine de Bruin, Leadership Chair in Behavioural Decision Making and Director of the Centre for Decision Research (CDR), has been elected a fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences.

Professor Bruine de Bruin is a leading figure in judgement and decision making, risk perception and communication, and age differences in decision-making competence. Her research aims to understand and inform how people make decisions about their finances, health, environmental footprint, and climate change. She is one of 58 social scientists to have been made a fellow this year.

In addition to holding a Leadership Chair in Behavioural Decision Making at Leeds University Business School, Professor Bruine de Bruin is also Director of the university-wide Centre for Decision Research and Deputy Director of the Priestley International Centre for Climate.

She commented:

As an EU citizen, I am delighted to be honoured by the Academy, and to be recognised amongst the leading social scientists in the UK.

The Academy of Social Sciences has more than 1,000 individual Fellows, who are distinguished scholars, practitioners and policymakers from academia and the public and private sectors. Fellowship status is awarded following peer group review for the excellence and impact of their work through the use of social science for public benefit.

Of the 58 fellows announced this year, Professor Mark Birkin from the School of Geography at the University of Leeds, was also recognised. Professor Birkin is Director and Principal Investigator of the ESRC funded Consumer Data Research Centre, for which Professor Bruine de Bruin is Co-investigator.

Peter Buckley OBE, Professor of International Business at Leeds University Business School, Professor Timothy Devinney, Pro-Dean for Research and Innovation and University Leadership Chair and Professor of International Business, and Emeritus Professor Richard Thorpe, former Pro-Dean for Research and Innovation are also Fellows of the Academy of Social Sciences.
