How did you hear about Leeds University Business School and why did you choose to study here?

The University of Leeds was always popular at my school and it was a great location for me being able go home quickly (near Manchester) when I needed to but it was also far enough away for me to feel like I'd broken away. I also loved how the University had the security and community feel of a campus whilst also being within easy access of the city centre.

What is the best part of your studies? What are you enjoying the most?

I really like how the modules on my course often incorporate real life business examples into the theory - this makes it much more interesting. I also value the opportunity to work both in teams and independently on assignments and to be able to focus your work on topics that interest you through discovery modules.

What are your career aspirations? Do you think the experience and skills you will gain from your degree course will help you in your future career plans? In what way?

I knew I loved marketing but I wasn't sure what career I'd like to pursue until I took a placement year out at Nestlé on their Marketing Scheme. Having had the opportunity to work for the world's largest FMCG business, I now know I want to work in brand management in a large corporate environment. Throughout my degree and my Year in Industry I have gained the knowledge and experience required for working in a corporate environment, and I've now secured a place on a graduate scheme, returning to Nestlé, as an Assistant Brand Manager.

Have you taken up any of the extra opportunities available to you and what was your experience of these eg. PASS scheme, work placement, study abroad, being an ambassador, student societies etc.? Any highlights?

I've tried to throw myself into university life, so I've actually done quite a lot when it comes to extra curricular activities. During my time at university, I've joined Enactus Society (consulting with small businesses), sat on the Business society committee (Vise President), volunteered as a PASS mentor, worked as a brand ambassador on campus, and completed a placement year at Nestlé.

What is your impression/experience of the facilities, the staff, your peers, the student union, the City of Leeds and the Yorkshire region?

Everyone is so friendly. If I think back to Fresher's week I was amazed at how welcoming everyone was and how eager everyone was to form new friendships and meet new people. This hasn't changed and I'm now in forth year, still meeting new friends and thoroughly enjoying my time in Leeds.

Would you recommend the Business School to others who are considering studying here?

Definitely! The Business School has such a fantastic reputation when applying for jobs and its support when it comes to preparing for careers is amazing. If I look at the experiences that my friends have had at other universities, I definitely feel more equipped to tackle applying for jobs and gaining the skills needed to be a successful applicant. The staff at the business school are also so helpful and do their best to make their modules fun and engaging whilst also providing relative and current content.
