Consul General of India Dr Shashank Vikram visits Leeds

The Consul General of India, Dr Shashank Vikram, visited Leeds on 1 June 2021, meeting with members of the Business School University of Leeds and business representatives from across the city.

Dr Surender Munjal, Director of James E. Lynch India and South Asia Business Centre, hosted Consul General of India (CGI) Dr Shashank Vikram at Weetwood Hall during his visit to Leeds.

The pair met over a breakfast meeting with a select group of academics from the University of Leeds and business representatives from the Leeds City Region. Dr Virkam later attended a workshop with a wider group of academics and industry professionals.

Dr Vikram spoke with many academics of Indian origin, exploring their India-related research projects and discussing the ways in which the Indian High Commission could support them. Dr Vikram also highlighted how his office was able to support the Leeds business community through international business related activities, such as the temporary tax exemption of many pharmaceutical supplies that were exported by UK businesses to India during the pandemic.

Dr Vikram’s visit strengthened the James E. Lynch India & South Asia Business Centre’s association with the High Commission and the local Indian business community, many of whom attended to meet with the Consul General. Several influential people, including Dr Manoj Josh, Deputy Lieutenants and Mr Nirmal Singh, MBE and Fellow Royal Society of Arts (Nirmal Sekhon Group) showed an enthusiasm to support Centre-related activities.

Dr Vikram expressed his enjoyment of the visit to Leeds and a desire to engage further with the region.
