Hands-on learning

I did my bachelor's in business administration from Symbiosis International University, Pune, India. Seeking my next opportunity, I had a lot of people from my network recommend the curriculum at Leeds University Business School (LUBS), citing the University of Leeds’ world ranking and great accreditations. The course structure for MA Advertising and Marketing was quite comprehensive, and hands-on learning was encouraged which aligned with my goals.

A comprehensive curriculum

This course was an ideal fit for me because of its incredibly comprehensive structure. It covered a vast range of topics within the field, providing a well-rounded foundation in the subject. This in-depth approach appealed to my desire to gain a strong understanding of the various aspects of advertising. Beyond the comprehensiveness, the course truly captivated me with its engaging modules. Each topic was presented in a way that sparked my curiosity and made learning genuinely enjoyable. This blend of thoroughness and engaging delivery solidified my decision to pursue this course.

A top-notch learning environment

Studying at Leeds University Business School (LUBS) has been a really exciting and fulfilling time. The support system has been fantastic – from professors readily available for guidance to dedicated career services that prepare you for the job market. The learning environment itself is top-notch. Leeds, the city itself, is a vibrant and welcoming place. There's always something to do, from exploring historical sites to a thriving nightlife. The city's friendly atmosphere creates a great sense of community, which always made me feel right at home.

Enriching experiences

Beyond academics, I actively sought out enriching experiences at Leeds. As a Link to Leeds Ambassador and LUBS PGT Ambassador, I had the rewarding opportunity to connect with fellow students and guide them on their journeys, just as I navigated my own. These roles allowed me to interact with a diverse range of people and contribute to the vibrant campus community. Additionally, I participated in numerous University events, immersing myself in the multicultural tapestry of Leeds. These events provided valuable learning experiences, allowing me to broaden my horizons and appreciate different cultures.

Student support

From the very beginning, resources were readily available to help navigate my transition. Whether it was attending orientation sessions or connecting with international student support groups, the University provided a welcoming environment. While applying for mitigating circumstances, the combined guidance of the student support team and my dedicated academic tutor was invaluable. They patiently assisted me with the process, alleviating a significant amount of stress and ensuring a fair outcome. This experience truly highlighted the University's commitment to student well-being and academic success.

Diverse experiences

Before studying at LUBS, I worked as an Account manager at an advertising agency called Arting Out Loud in India. Arriving at the University with an open mind, I embraced every opportunity that came my way. This proactive approach led to three fulfilling part-time jobs and invaluable connections with inspiring individuals. Today, I have a wealth of diverse experiences and a collection of magnificent stories to share. As an international student, building a new life from scratch in a new country was an achievement in itself, one that instilled a deep sense of independence and resilience.

Inspiring individuals

My career ambition lies in the exciting world of advertising. I'm particularly drawn to the energy of working with either ad agencies or smaller, emerging brands. The idea of being part of a team that builds a brand from the ground floor, shaping its identity and seeing it flourish, is incredibly motivating to me. My experience at Leeds has been instrumental in preparing me for this journey. Here, I actively sought out diverse part-time opportunities, allowing me to gain experience in various areas and develop a well-rounded skillset. Additionally, Leeds provided a fantastic platform to network and connect with inspiring individuals, fostering a strong understanding of the industry landscape. These combined experiences have fueled my passion for advertising and equipped me with the foundation to make a valuable contribution to any team.

Networking opportunities

I have attended multiple careers fairs hosted by the University which have allowed me to network with employers and helped provide significant help in navigating through the journey of searching for roles. The Careers Centre’s CV Checker also helped me refine my resume using its line-by-line analysis tool. I have had two part time work opportunities with the University, being a Link to Leeds Ambassador and LUBS PGT Ambassador.

Moving to the UK

As soon as I accepted my offer, I was able to join WhatsApp offer holder groups made by the University which enabled me to ask questions. It also enabled me to make good friends with other students I talked to in the group. Orientation week, arrival support and international welcome events helped me to network with lots of other students and share similar experiences. Even today, my closest friends are the ones I found through the WhatsApp groups and orientation week events!
