Tell us about your degree - why did you choose it?

Advertising has always intrigued me, even though we are surrounded by advertisements every day. Not many universities offer Advertising as a course. From my research and conversations with people across the globe, the University of Leeds always stood out for its unique offering, alongside the practical knowledge and insight provided from within the industry. The fact that I got to be part of such a prestigious university has always filled me with pride. I particularly enjoyed the choice of subjects and the way the course was structured, especially the workshops, which were practical and encouraged us to think beyond the usual.

What did you enjoy most about your course?

The professors have been a highlight for me since day one. They designed classes and lectures in the form of conversations and always encouraged us to ask questions and challenge ideas. This instilled a habit in me to think beyond the usual brief. The professors were also open about their experiences of the job market and encouraged us to explore industries we may not otherwise have considered for employment. The facilities at the University of Leeds have also been outstanding. Some spaces are accessible to students 24 hours a day during semester time, which was always helpful when working around different schedules. The University has always felt like a safe space for every student.

What did you enjoy most about your life as a student at the University of Leeds?

I was the President of Residence Halls, which sharpened my leadership skills. Working with more than 250 residents and organising events and trips was a huge part of my experience at the University. This ultimately led to my residence winning the Residence Hall of the Year Award during my time there.

How did you find adjusting to living and studying in the UK?

For an international student, moving to the UK can be a difficult adjustment. Coming from a tropical climate, daylight saving and the early sunsets were new to me and took some time to get used to. The abundance of events at the Students' Union and the great fitness facilities at The Edge were a huge motivation for me to get out, meet people and keep learning. My advice would be to socialise as much as you can at university. A simple 'Hi' can change your life.

What professional skills and experience did you gain?

During my dissertation, I realised that I had become more thoughtful and had much more clarity in my opinions. This has been a game changer in my professional life. I am now able to articulate myself clearly and be thorough in expressing my opinions. This has led to faster growth within my organisation and has opened me up to new opportunities.

How has your career progressed since leaving the Business School?

I work for the world's largest sports nutrition brand, Myprotein. My time at Leeds prepared me to work with people from different countries, apply my learning in real time and move quickly with clarity. This has contributed to me becoming a high achiever at work, where I have had the opportunity to work in partnership with other major brands and global celebrities.

What are your ambitions for the future?

My ambition for the future is to become a leader in the Advertising and Marketing field on a global scale, helping to bridge the gap between the UK/EU and Asian markets.

What was your biggest highlight of studying at Leeds?

The friendships I made during my time at university have stood the test of time. From working part time while studying to now having full-time careers, I am positive that, in the years to come, these connections will play a major role in the growth of everyone involved.

Would you recommend Leeds University Business School?

Yes – be on your toes and accept all opportunities. You only need one 'yes' that can have a significant impact on your life.
