Why did you choose to study Business Analytics and Decision Sciences? 

I chose to study Business Analytics and Decision Sciences at Leeds University Business School because I wanted to bring together my engineering background with my growing experience in the financial services sector. As an engineer, I had always been drawn to solving complex problems through logic and analysis. However, working in financial services showed me that the best decisions are made by combining technical expertise with data-driven insights and a deep understanding of business. 

I wanted to develop the skills to bridge that gap, and the programme at Leeds offered exactly that. It provided the opportunity to strengthen my analytical capabilities while learning how to apply them to real business challenges. The modules included in this course were a perfect blend of data analytics, decision science and strategic thinking, and aligned perfectly with where I wanted to take my career. 

What did you enjoy most about your life as a student at the University of Leeds? 

One of the most rewarding parts of my time at the University of Leeds was the sense of community. While I thoroughly enjoyed the academic experience, some of my most meaningful memories came from the opportunities to give back beyond the classroom. 

I was proud to be part of the very first cohort of Peer Support Assistants for the Careers Centre. It was one of the most fulfilling experiences of my time at Leeds, as I had the opportunity to support fellow students through applications, interviews and other career-related queries while navigating the same journey myself. 

One of the moments that meant the most to me came after graduation, when I was invited back as a guest speaker for the LUBS2020 From Study to Work module. Speaking to second-year undergraduate students who were preparing for placements and internships felt like a full-circle moment. 

How did you find adjusting to living and studying in the UK? 

As someone who was leaving my home country for the very first time to study abroad in the UK, moving to Leeds was both exciting and daunting. Looking back, one of the things I appreciated most was how smooth the University made that transition. From the airport pick-up to settling into my accommodation, I felt supported every step of the way, which made a new environment feel much less overwhelming. 

Freshers Week and the many events organised by Leeds University Union were a fantastic way to meet people from around the world, make friends and quickly feel part of the University community.  

What professional skills and experience did you gain during your time at Leeds University Business School? 

My time at Leeds University Business School equipped me with a combination of technical, professional and interpersonal skills that continue to shape my career today. Academically, the programme strengthened my analytical thinking, problem-solving and decision-making abilities through hands-on projects, case studies and the application of tools such as Python, R, SQL and data visualisation techniques. 

The Careers Centre played a significant role in my professional development. From CV reviews and interview preparation to careers fairs and employer networking events, the support available gave me the confidence to navigate the job market.  

How did your time at Leeds prepare you for the future? 

The University encouraged me to make the most out of opportunities beyond the classroom. Whether it was becoming one of the first Peer Support Assistants at the Careers Centre, networking with employers, or later returning as a guest speaker for the From Study to Work module, each experience reinforced the importance of giving back, supporting others, and remaining connected to the community that helped shape me. 

How has your career progressed since leaving the Business School? 

After graduating from Leeds, I began my career in insurance as a Business Analyst at Willis Towers Watson, where I supported a global line of business and had the opportunity to apply the technical and analytical skills I had developed during my Business Analytics and Decision Sciences programme. 

During my time at Willis Towers Watson, I was honoured to receive the Sales Award in recognition of my contribution to the growth of my global practice. It was a rewarding milestone that reinforced the value of combining analytical thinking with collaboration and a commercial mindset. 

I then joined Lockton as an Associate Consultant within the Global Benefits Management team. In this role, I advise multinational organisations on the design and management of their global employee benefits programmes, working with clients and colleagues across multiple regions and cultures. 

What are your ambitions for the future? 

Looking ahead, my ambition is to continue building an international career at the intersection of analytics, consulting and financial services. Having worked with global teams and multinational clients, I have developed a real passion for solving complex business challenges in diverse and cross-cultural environments. 

Beyond my professional aspirations, I also want to continue mentoring students and early-career professionals, just as others supported me throughout my journey. 

What was your biggest highlight of studying at Leeds? 

My biggest highlight of studying at Leeds was the journey of personal growth I experienced during my time there. When I arrived at the University as an international student, it was my first time living away from home and adapting to a completely new country, culture and education system. One of the most special parts of my experience was the people I met along the way. The friendships I built with classmates, friends from different courses, and people I met through university activities became some of my most cherished memories. 

Another moment I will always remember was being invited back to Leeds after graduation as a guest speaker for the LUBS2020 From Study to Work module. Speaking to students who were preparing for their own career journeys felt incredibly special. 

Would you recommend Leeds University Business School? 

Yes. My time at Leeds was transformative. What makes Leeds special is the strong sense of community. As an international student arriving in a new country for the first time, I always felt supported by the University, the Business School, and the wider student community. From excellent academic support and approachable faculty members to the range of career services and extracurricular opportunities available, there was always guidance available whenever I needed it. 

University is not just about attending lectures and completing assignments; it is a time to explore, build relationships, discover your strengths, and develop as an individual. Get involved in societies, attend networking events, connect with your peers, engage with the Careers Centre, and make use of the incredible resources available to you.
