Why did you choose to study Business Analytics and Decision Sciences?
I studied an MSc in Business Analytics and Decision Sciences because I wanted to deepen my ability to turn data into better business decisions. What attracted me to the programme was its unique combination of technical expertise and strategic decision-making, equipping graduates to bridge the gap between data and business leadership.
My passion for analytics began during my career in the telecommunications industry in Sudan. Working with millions of customers records every day, I became fascinated by looking beyond the numbers to understand customer behaviour, identify growth opportunities, and support strategic business decisions. Seeing how data-driven insights could create measurable business value inspired me to build a long-term career in analytics.
As my responsibilities grew, I continuously invested in developing my skills beyond traditional analysis, expanding from Excel to tools such as Python, R, and Microsoft Power BI. Applying these skills across real business projects reinforced my belief that effective analytics is not just about producing reports — it’s about enabling better decisions.
Wanting to broaden both my technical knowledge and strategic perspective, I decided to pursue postgraduate study at a world-class university. Coming from a developing country, studying at the University of Leeds represented an opportunity to learn from leading academics, challenge myself in a global environment, and gain the expertise needed to create greater impact through data.
What did you enjoy most about your course?
What I enjoyed most about the course was its ability to bridge the gap between technical analytics and real-world business decision-making. It taught us that the value of analytics is not simply building models or dashboards but communicating insights in a way that enables stakeholders to make confident, evidence-based decisions.
The course content was both academically rigorous and highly practical, allowing me to apply what I learned to real business challenges. I particularly appreciated the teaching approach of the academic staff, who explained complex analytical concepts in a clear, engaging, and accessible way. Their ability to simplify challenging topics created an environment where learning was both enjoyable and rewarding.

Combined with the support of the academic staff, these experiences gave me greater confidence as I progressed towards the next stage of my career.
