LUBS was the dream place to study
After I completing my undergraduate studies in Munich, Germany., I was searching online for the right course to pursue my academic career in the marketing and consumer behavior fields. In addition, I spoke to a study abroad consultant and requested suggestions on finding my dream course. As a result, both paths turned out to be Leeds University Business School (LUBS) which was the dream place for me to continue studying and learn more in the academic field of marketing.
An inspiring course
My course focuses on how consumer behavior can be analyzed through theories and language programming, providing business strategy suggestions for better marketing performance. The motivation behind my choice is that I’m interested in not only how consumers react to specific marketing strategies, but also in understanding the intentions behind the behavior. As a result, modules such as consumer behavior and marketing analytics inspired me to choose this course.
Learning outside the lecture hall
LUBS is a great place to pursue your academic career. The postgraduate course is solid and has provides numerous opportunities such as competitions, guest speaking and events for students to sign up to. These opportunities have assisted me in learning outside the lecture hall and helped me build a strong network which is essential in my career. Furthermore, the staff and my peers have every supportive during my studies. Living in Leeds is not only convenient and comfortable, but because it’s considered a cultural city, there are many musical and art events held each year. Therefore, it is wonderful to be here and study at LUBS.
Extracurricular opportunities
I've attended both the Taiwanese and table tennis societies and have attended different events where I’ve made a lot of friends outside my course. Being part of society not only allows you to build up your social network, but it also teaches you to be responsible and gives you the ability to solve issues. I'm also an ambassador for LUBS, assisting students who are interested in the School and would like to know more about it. I've attended events such as online student panels, a Business Masters Open Day and campus tour. Through these events, I've gained multiple skills such as communicating and presenting skills. I’ve really appreciated the opportunity to become an ambassador, sharing my experiences with future students who want to be part of this big family. As I learnt marketing analysis during my second semester, which I showed a strong interest in, I also decided to attend the Data Science Festival as a volunteer in London.
Living support
Since living in student accommodation, the University has provided so much support, not only assisting us on moving in day but also maintaining the security of student safety. Any issues were always solved in a short amount of time, which is helpful when facing accommodation-related problems. From an academic perspective, the University libraries provide various support depending on your needs through the Skill Support webpage. I booked the statistics support service, and it was useful for solving a problem. Personal wellbeing is another topic the University actively supports; students can call or talk to school staff about their feelings or raise mental health issues.
Personal development
Personal development is the biggest achievement during my time here at the University. I’ve learnt to be prepared for every opportunity and grab it when it shows up. I've met many friends, gained various skills and created lovely memories during my postgraduate journey here at the University of Leeds. Besides my improvement in academic performance, the principle of making the most of my experience has led me to pursue a better me which can be viewed as the driving force behind my growth and personal development.
Careers support
I have joined several career affairs held by the University and talked directly to the corporate representatives, asking about the requirements for entering their business. Additionally, I've also been to the Careers Centre, booking careers advice and utilising the CV checker to optimise my CV. I also talked to my academic personal tutor, asking for career advice and sharing my thoughts about my future career which was extremely helpful. In general, the University has been incredibly supportive when focusing on my future career.
Making new friends
It's not difficult to make friends and build a network because the University holds various events, encouraging students to meet with each other. These events assisted me in meeting friends that are outside my course and of different nationalities, which I considered a great practice in learning how to interact and communicate with people who are from different countries. Furthermore, there are many societies and clubs for students to join which is another wonderful chance to make new friends.
Lasting memories
I’m grateful for being able to join the LUBS family and I would like to show my appreciation to every staff, lecturer and peer for being so nice to me. My journey at LUBS was incredible; I made many friends, gained both academic and business skills and most importantly, learned to be ready for every opportunity. I believe these important memories will be my life’s treasure and they will always remind me of the wonderful time I had at the University.
