Fleur on her graduation day

How did you hear about the Business School and why did you choose to study here?

I heard about Leeds University Business School whilst studying my undergraduate degree in Fashion Marketing. I chose to stay at the University of Leeds to study for my Masters as I really enjoyed my time here and believed the Business School to be the place to support my further academic and personal development.

Tell us about your course - why did you choose it? What elements of the course inspired you to study here?

I chose to study MSc Management Consulting as I believed it to be the course that would best guide me into my desired career in consulting. The modules of this course are diverse and really offer the best opportunities to develop a breadth of management and leadership skills. The final consulting project was particularly important in swaying my decision to study this course, providing invaluable consulting experience working with a real company in a client-facing role, gaining transferable skills and industry-specific knowledge.

What is the best part of your studies? What are you enjoying the most?

There are several modules that I have found to be both interesting and enjoyable, specifically ‘Effective decision-making' and ‘Strategic change and leadership’. I think the most enjoyable part of the course has certainly been the management consulting project, whereby I have had the opportunity to work with an external company and complete my final dissertation in response to a problem raised by this client organisation. I have maintained contact with the client over a three-month period, scheduling regular meetings and working on a real-time consulting project. It has been very enjoyable to experience and work on a meaningful project as part of my final submission.

What are your career aspirations? Do you think the experience and skills you will gain on your course will help you in your future career plans? In what way?

I hope to obtain a role in consultancy or management. I certainly believe this course has provided both knowledge and practical skills that will aid in developing a long and successful career. I believe the combination of taught modules with the opportunity to work on a real consulting project, as well as the regular professional development workshops, has built the necessary foundation for me to thrive in an entry-level position.

Do you have any noteworthy achievements from your study at the Business School that you can tell us about eg. prizes highest scores etc?

Whilst studying at the Leeds University Business School I won an award for my work as part of a team in the LUU Consulting Society. We completed a three-month consulting project working with a client to develop a marketing strategy tosolve legitimate business problems.

What is your impression/experience of the facilities, the staff, your peers, the student union, the City of Leeds and the Yorkshire region?

I have loved my 4 years at Leeds so much. I will certainly miss the campus, especially the libraries, where so many hours were spent, and the Students Union, which provided so many happy memories. I have made friends for life at Leeds, finding people who I have so much in common with has been a key highlight of my time here.

What would you say your defining memory of studying here was? (eg friendships made confidence in your abilities or any single event that you will always remember?)

A defining memory of studying at Leeds must be the final Leeds ball. To have all my friends from my time at university in one place, on the campus where we all met, celebrating the end of our studies was really unforgettable.

Would you recommend the Business School to others who are considering studying here?

I would certainly recommend Leeds University Business School to others considering studying here. The teaching and support I have received from the school and the achievements I have subsequently been able to make, make me sure that others will be given the same opportunity to thrive.
