Why did you choose Leeds University Business School?
I first came to Leeds University Business School to look at the business and language courses offered. When I was looking around, I came across BSc International Business and Marketing, which I hadn't heard of before, and it seemed really interesting.
As I listened to the presentation, I liked how there was a lot of focus on the opportunities the University offers to students. This included academic, employability and enrichment opportunities, such as summer schools, the Skills Sessions and the careers events offered by the Business School.
What do you enjoy most about your studies?
The course is very multicultural and international. There are so many students from different areas of the world, it's so enlightening getting to converse with the other students as they all have different backgrounds, experiences, and ideas.
The course itself is also very adaptable and it covers not only aspects of business in an international context, but we have also learned about other topics such as economics, management, marketing and research methods. Through the module offering you can really apply your knowledge to a lot of different aspects of business.
Have you taken up any of the extra opportunities available to you? What was your experience of these?
In my first year, I took part in the Language Groups Programme which was a weekly session where I met a group to practice my German language skills. I really enjoyed this as I got to meet new people and develop my understanding of the language.
I also took part in the Leeds Surf Society; with this society you get to go to Scarborough and try out some surfing with friends. After a few weeks of learning, I was able to master standing up on the board. It’s such a great day out and I met lots of great people through the society!
I am also a Leeds University Business School Ambassador where I get to promote the Business School to potential future students at open days. This has been a great opportunity to network and develop my employability.
How has your experience been with the facilities, the staff, your peers and the student union?
My experience with the staff, facilities, and Leeds University Union has been really great. Staff are always willing to help and there are loads of resources available to help students.
What do you think of Leeds and the surrounding region? Where is your favourite place to go in the area?
Leeds is a vibrant student city with something to do every week. There are always different events happening nearby, so each week you can find something to try. I enjoy going out to green spaces so walking through Woodhouse Moor or having a picnic there with friends in the summer is nice. A little further out there’s also Kirkstall Abbey which is a nice place to visit and explore.
Leeds is a good place to be a student in as it offers loads of social opportunities where you can meet people in the city, but it’s also great if you want to do outdoor activities such as hiking or cycling!
What are your career aspirations? Do you think the experience and skills you will gain from your degree course will help you in your future career plans?
I think the degree so far has been really useful for my career. I want to work either abroad or for an international company, so the knowledge that I am gaining through my studies and the insight into different cultures is really interesting and I'm sure I will implement this at my future job.
Would you recommend the Business School to others who are considering studying here?
I would definitely recommend the Business School as it offers so much to its students. The courses are taught to a high standard with lots of opportunities to ask for help or 1-to-1 support if you need it.The activities and opportunities offered outside-of-class also allow students to increase their employability and gain experiences that will help them in the future. The Business School is great in the sense that not only does it give you the chance to do well academically but also in other aspects of life, necessary to help kickstart your future.
