What do you enjoy about your course?
I really enjoy the variety that my course provides, and the manner in which through electives and optional modules you can really make the course fit your interests. I have also found that being within the Business School I am provided with lots of support for my studies, which really helps when getting to grips with difficult new theories.
What do you think about the facilities available to students?
The facilities available to students are excellent, the Edge is especially useful in your first year, as membership is included in your halls. The Union really is so handy, with plenty of shops and bars, as well as some really good nights out, particularly Fruity – a must for every Leeds University student at some point! The libraries around campus provide an excellent working space, and access to all the books you’ll need on your course.
Have you joined any student societies or clubs at the University?
I have joined the universities development netball team, which has been a fun way of meeting new people whilst keeping fit. I am also a member of LUBSSOC which has again helped me to meet new people and highlighted the opportunities available to me through frequent talks from companies. The ‘Give it a go’ sessions that are run by societies at the start of each semester are a great way of giving something new a try. Also, the University has so many societies and sports teams, all interests are catered for.
Have you been involved in any of the Ambassador, Intern, or PASS schemes?
I am the student ambassador intern, in which I have helped to develop, expand and market the student ambassador scheme. I am also a PASS leader, which has helped me to develop leadership skills as well as helping first year students settle in to university life.
These have given me excellent experience and something which has been really valuable in interviews for work placements.
Are you considering doing a year in industry?
I have recently received an offer from the Government Economic Service at the Home Office for a placement year, which I am delighted about. I decided to apply for placements as I feel that the experience they can provide is invaluable and can really help to improve your employability after graduation. I found finding a placement easier due to the support from the Business School and the Careers Centre which advertise all placements.
Do you have any highlights or recommendations for future students?
I love being a student at Leeds and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it to anyone. I think that Leeds provides everything you would look for in a university. It is situated in a great cosmopolitan city with nightlife to cater for everyone. The University and the Business School have an excellent reputation and are valued by employers, which has become increasingly important.
