- Start date: 1 August 2023
- End date: 31 July 2024
- Principal investigator: Professor Shahla Ghobadi
Description
Digital technology is playing a growing role in sustainability, with innovations like smart grids, energy-efficient appliances, and autonomous vehicles helping reduce emissions. Additionally, renewable energy sources such as wind and solar are becoming more common as alternatives to fossil fuels. However, organisations face the challenge of balancing environmental goals with social inclusivity.
Research overview
This study aims to explore how technology-driven sustainability solutions can unintentionally disadvantage vulnerable populations and seeks to identify strategies for making them more inclusive.
The research asks: How can sustainability solutions and policies be designed to better serve diverse populations?
By examining the intersection of technology and social justice, the study will offer insights into developing more equitable sustainability policies that consider the needs of all communities. The project uses an exploratory approach to reveal insights about the interaction between sustainability solutions and policies and their impacts on diverse populations.
This project is funded by Leeds University Business School’s Climate Change and Environmental Research Fund.
