Helping the emergency services utilise mobile technologies

David Allen

Mobile technologies are dramatically changing how the UK’s emergency services operate and as this dynamic industry continues to innovate, it is inevitable that more change will follow.

The Adaptation, Information Management & Technology group (AIMTech) has worked with a number of the UK’s emergency service agencies, and this has led to recommendations on how the services should use, evaluate and innovate using emergent mobile technology.

This work, led by Professor David Allen, has led to practical change in the services: a greater understanding of how mobile technologies influence practices at work; better-informed policies on decision-making when trying to meet strategic objectives; a greater awareness of the opportunities that technology provides and improved understanding of the innovation process; and evidence to inform and guide technology investment; a way to more effectively evaluate its use.
