Why did you choose to study International Business?

I chose the MSc International Business at the University of Leeds because I was determined to develop a sophisticated understanding of the forces shaping global commerce. Having grown up in a family with a long-standing manufacturing heritage, I recognised that sustainable success in today’s world demands more than operational excellence, it requires strategic vision, international perspective, and the ability to navigate complex global markets.

Leeds University Business School distinguished itself through its academic excellence, multicultural environment, and emphasis on practical, globally relevant learning. I sought an institution that would challenge conventional thinking while equipping me with the analytical and leadership capabilities required to operate across international markets.

The programme refined my strategic outlook and deepened my understanding of international trade, cross-cultural management, and global business strategy. Today, as the founder of Saskia Industries, an export-focused manufacturing enterprise headquartered in India, I continue to draw upon the insights and perspectives I gained at Leeds while expanding our presence across international markets.

What did you enjoy most about your course?

I particularly appreciated the programme’s emphasis on strategic thinking and practical application. Through case studies, collaborative projects, and analytical discussions, we were encouraged to evaluate complex business challenges from multiple perspectives rather than pursue simplistic solutions. This approach significantly enhanced my decision-making abilities and strengthened my commercial judgement.

Equally impressive was the calibre of the academic faculty. Their expertise, accessibility, and commitment to intellectual curiosity fostered an environment where students were encouraged to question assumptions and develop independent perspectives.

What did you enjoy most about student life at Leeds?

One of the most rewarding aspects of my time at Leeds was engaging with an exceptionally international community. The friendships and conversations I shared with individuals from across the world enriched my understanding of global society and reinforced the importance of cultural intelligence in international business.

Alongside my studies, I gained valuable professional experience within the UK’s retail and automotive sectors, further enhancing my communication skills, professionalism, and understanding of customer-centric business practices.

How did you find adjusting to living and studying in the UK?

Relocating to the UK was both exciting and transformative. While adapting to a new culture, academic environment, and way of life naturally came with its challenges, I viewed every experience as an opportunity to grow. The multicultural atmosphere at the University of Leeds made the transition much smoother, as students from across the world shared similar experiences and supported one another throughout the journey.

The University’s academic resources, careers support, and approachable staff played an important role in helping me settle in and make the most of my time at Leeds. I also found the campus environment to be exceptionally welcoming, encouraging both academic excellence and personal development.

What professional skills and experience did you gain during your time at Leeds University Business School?

I developed skills that continue to shape the way I approach business today. The programme strengthened my ability to analyse international markets, think strategically, and understand how businesses operate across different cultures and economies. Beyond the classroom, I made full use of the University’s careers support. I attended careers fairs, networking events, and CV workshops, which gave me a better understanding of employer expectations in the UK. I also secured a part-time role as a Showroom Host at JCT600 Volkswagen while completing my studies. That experience taught me professionalism, customer service, and the importance of building relationships with people from different backgrounds.

How did your time at Leeds prepare you for the future?

My time at Leeds gave me much more than an academic qualification, it changed the way I think. Living independently in the UK helped me become more adaptable, resilient, and confident. Balancing my studies with part-time work also taught me the importance of professionalism, time management, and effective communication.

Today, as the founder of Saskia Industries, I regularly draw on what I learned at Leeds while building relationships with international customers and expanding into new markets. More than anything, Leeds gave me the confidence to pursue ambitious goals while remaining open to continuous learning. It prepared me not just for my first job after graduation, but for the long-term journey of building a business with a global outlook.

How has your career progressed since leaving the Business School?

After graduating, I initially gained professional experience in the UK while working as a Showroom Host at JCT600 Volkswagen. Soon afterwards, I made the decision to return to India to support my family during a challenging period and to contribute to our long-established manufacturing business.

Building on our family’s 75-year legacy, I founded Saskia Industries, an export-focused company with the vision of taking high-quality Indian flour milling machinery and emery mill stones to customers around the world. Since then, I have focused on expanding into international markets, building relationships with distributors and industrial buyers, and representing the company at global trade exhibitions.

Saskia Industries has grown from two products to more than 150 products in less than a year, with development across auxiliary items for flour mill machinery, including spare parts, diesel engine parts, electric motors and hose pipes for customers in African markets.

What are your ambitions for the future?

My ambition is to establish Saskia Industries as one of the world’s most trusted names in flour milling equipment and industrial manufacturing while showcasing the quality and capability of Indian manufacturing on the global stage.

Beyond business growth, I hope to create meaningful employment opportunities, invest in innovation, and contribute to the long-term development of India’s manufacturing sector. I believe businesses have a responsibility not only to generate economic value but also to create a positive impact for their employees, customers, and communities.

What was your biggest highlight of studying at Leeds?

If I had to choose one highlight from my time at Leeds, it would be the confidence I gained. Moving from India to the UK was a significant step and living independently while pursuing a demanding postgraduate degree pushed me well beyond my comfort zone. It taught me to adapt, embrace new perspectives, and become more self-reliant.

Would you recommend Leeds University Business School?

Without hesitation, I would recommend Leeds University Business School. The University not only provides an excellent education but also creates an environment where students are encouraged to grow.
