Sarah has extensive academic experience in teaching and administration from over 10 years in The School of Computing at The University of Leeds. Teaching mainly focused on discrete optimisation and theoretical computer science. She was the departmental Senior Undergraduate Admissions Tutor for 10 years, responsible for all aspects of student recruitment. She was also the departmental Examinations Officer, responsible for ensuring that University Codes of Practice were adhered to for teaching and assessment. At University level she contributed to working parties on personal development planning, ethics in teaching, classification techniques, and consolidating processes. She has acted as the project manager on a successful major grant involving Leeds University, Rolls Royce, and Cybula. She has also contributed to the curriculum design of a joint teaching venture between Southwest Jiaotong University and the Faculty of Engineering. Currently Sarah is a self-employed consultant undertaking administrative duties as the Manager of EURO – The Association of European Operational Research Societies. She also advises Omnibus Solutions regarding their bus driver scheduling software. For the past 3 years she has also graded AS Decision Mathematics papers for OCR. Voluntary activities include being a STEM Ambassador and the Secretary of the Yorkshire and Humberside OR Group.
Sarah’s research interests include public transport crew scheduling and optimisation using techniques such as integer linear programming and heuristics. She reviews papers for the Journal of the Operational Research Society and IEEE Transactions on Intelligent Transport Systems.
