Global Seminar Series

From 20 October to 17 November the Business School has been working with several institutions across the globe to produce an exciting new project:

‘Back to the Future: The Innovation of Business in a Post Pandemic World’.

This global seminar series was developed alongside North Carolina State University (USA), The Hebrew University of Jerusalem (Israel), Universidad de San Andres (Argentina), and WU Vienna (Vienna University of Economics and Business, Austria), and offered students of all study backgrounds the opportunity to attend a weekly seminar presented by experts at each institution. Themes included creativity and innovation, democratising innovation, international entrepreneurship, emerging market opportunities in the COVID era, and global sustainability.

Professor Elizabeth Rose represented Leeds in week three of the series and presented on ‘International Entrepreneurship and Innovation’. The series was incredibly well received, with around 490 students attending from all five business schools, including 80 from Leeds.

The main goals of the series were to offer students the opportunity to access interesting and intellectually challenging extra-curricular academic content, delivered by leading academics globally, and to give them the opportunity to meet and network with like-minded students located in different areas of the world.

Ellen Wang, Faculty International Manager, commented: “The global pandemic has undoubtedly brought us many challenges this academic year, however we were able to turn some of the challenges into opportunities.

The Global Seminar Series is a testament of this, where we joined forces with our international partners to ‘bring the world’ to our students via online platform. This event format is an enabler for widening participation, which is something we hope to continue developing in the future.
