How did you hear about Leeds University Business School and why did you choose to study here?
It was my brother who first introduced me to the University of Leeds as he did his masters in 2009-2010. Initially I was very confused which University I should attend to pursue my masters. I was pretty much convinced by my brother after he received good job opportunities in Canada. The ranking of Leeds University Business School is improving every year with greater job opportunities.
Tell us about your course – why did you choose it? What elements of the course inspired you to study here?
I studied MSc Accounting and Finance and the major reason for me choosing this course was I had a finance background in my bachelors degree and I wanted to improve my skills to help my future career opportunities. The course covered economics, accounting and finance related modules, which explained from basic theories to how things work in practical life.
What is the best part of your studies – what are you enjoying/did you enjoy the most?
The best part of studies for me would be that the professors are highly qualified and there is a great level of teaching. It also helped me develop my writing skills.
What are your career aspirations? Do you think the experience and skills you’ve gained here will help/have helped you in your future career plans?
My career aspirations are to find a stimulating and challenging position, which builds on my University skills and knowledge, as well as professional experience. I have had no work experience so far but I am sure that this University study experience will help me achieve my goals in future as I have seen tremendous improvements in myself over the period of one year.
Do you have any noteworthy achievements from your study at the Business School that you can tell us about?
In the summer, we had one week of trading sessions where we were taught how to trade in a real world setting with fluctuating and varying news feeds. I am glad to say that I was part of it and was one of the best performers. I was provided with a certificate for my excellence, which will definitely be a plus point on my resume.
If you are not from the UK, how was the transition to a foreign country? Did the University offer support or services that you found helpful? Can you offer any advice?
The University provided maximum support from the time I applied for a place on the course until I arrived in Leeds. I joined the groups on Facebook and LinkedIn, where everything was updated that led me to be informed about the things going on in the University.
What is your impression/experience of the facilities, the staff, your peers, the student union, the city of Leeds and the Yorkshire region?
The facilities provided are very convenient to students. The University provides everything and makes things easier for students. The staff is extremely qualified and very well supportive not just in academics. After a long tiring day, the Student Union is the best place to gather with friends and relax. It is a lively city.
Are there any experiences outside of your studies that you have particularly enjoyed?
University is like a professional working life where you work from 9am–5pm, relax for a bit and prepare for the next day. For relaxing there are a lot of places depending on ones choice. Museums, Art Galleries and Leeds has one of the best nightlife scenes in the UK.
