Ms Zumin Zhang

Tell us about your degree - why did you choose it? What elements of the degree inspired you to study it?

I wanted to see a new world and I did it.

What was the best part of your studies here? What did you enjoy the most?

To meet people from 30 countries in my class and chat with each other everyday. It was like a grand endless party!

Do you think the experience and skills you gained here will help/helped you in your future career plans? In what way?

I wanted to play an important role in an international enterprise, and to my surprise I became an entrepreneur after graduation from Leeds University Business School. I have used the theory and case study experiences in the real world, and this has helped me to have a clear direction of where I want to go.

How has your career progressed since leaving the Business School? Have there been any notable highlights?

I developed a great way of managing my own business, it is beyond my expectation, nothing can fulfill me better than this.

Where are you currently working, and what is your role?

I'm now working in Zhangjiagang, China. I am the vice-general manager of Modat Co, in charge of marketing, product design, bulk-production, total quality management and organisational culture.

What are your ambitions for the future?

To continue building our enterprise and see high performance results.

Do you think your experience and skills gained here will help you in your future career plans? In what way?

Yes, The Full time MBA gave me a full picture of the business world, giving me knowledge at every level.

What would you recommend to future students?

The staff were very nice to me, they were always there to quickly answer any questions I had. I love Leeds, the pubs are charming, city centre is modern and China Town has everything I needed for when I missed home. I studied at Leeds a long time ago, but when I returned back last year it was just super.

What would you say is your defining memory of studying here? (eg friendships made, confidence in your abilities, or any single event that you will always remember?) And would you recommend the Business School to others

I have business trips every year to UK, Europe US and Japan, I believe it was my experiences in Leeds that changed me into a more international person. The best memory was celebrating the Millennium, we had a wonderful party, and experienced the Millennium Dome being built.
