Tell us about your degree - why did you choose it? What elements of the degree inspired you to study it?
I wish to pursue a professional career in the consulting sector and the programme offered many opportunities to practice problem-solving skills and critical thinking. The Business School also provides opportunities to collaborate with prestigious international consulting firms as part of the dissertation project.
What was the best part of your studies here? What did you enjoy the most?
I acquired experience of working as a consultant from a work placement offered by the Business School. With the help of the Business School I worked on my dissertation project with one of the top European strategy consulting firms. I enjoyed liaising with my teammates. The project made me realise how consultancy works and it gave me the opportunity to work with consultants at a prestigious strategy consulting firm.
What were your career aspirations when you arrived? Do you think the experience and skills you gained here will help/helped you in your future career plans? In what way?
When I arrived in Leeds I aspired to work as a consultant in a management consulting firm.
I have completed three consulting projects with the help of the Business School and I understand the consulting market from my dissertation project.
In my second semester, I received help from my tutor on developing my consulting project, I wrote a business proposal report and secured a consulting project at an international company based in London.
This experience has helped me develop my problem-solving skills and critical thinking and has helped me realise the future of the consulting sector and the capabilities needed in the consulting market.
How has your career progressed since leaving the Business School? Have there been any notable highlights?
I am currently working in Guangzhou, China, as an Analyst in the Risk Advisory team at Deloitte.
They have been really impressed by my experience from when I conducted research for my dissertation. For example, during the course of the research, I conducted interviews with participants such as partners from Arthur D. Little, Directors from BCG, and Senior Consultants from Deloitte, PwC, KPMG, and BearingPoint.
What are your ambitions for the future?
I aspire to acquire advanced analytical skills and to make progress in the consulting company.
Do you think your experience and skills gained here will help you in your future career plans? In what way?
I have acquired knowledge of the current situation of the UK consulting market, its trends and competitive landscape. This will help me follow the trends of the consulting market and allow me to make progress in acquiring new capabilities brought by the trend.
