How did you hear about Leeds University Business School and why did you choose to study here?

I first came across Leeds University Business School when I began searching specifically for accredited MSc Organizational and Occupational Psychology programmes online. I found out more about Leeds University through friends who had studied here, and particularly liked the module breakdown. I eventually chose Leeds University Business School from this shortlist because the modules covered all my areas of interest and offered a lot of additional guest lectures and organizational links.

Tell us about your course – why did you choose it?

Leeds University Business School is one of only a few universities to offer an MSc Organizational Psychology course that is accredited by the British Psychological Society. As I eventually plan to become a chartered psychologist, it is vital that my courses are BPS approved. In addition, the modules were interesting and diverse, and covered all my favourite areas as well as some unfamiliar ones. I also liked the fact that many of our lecturers were practicing consultants with real world experience.

What are the best things about your studies here?

My favourite element of the course is the applied focus. All of our modules include an element of real world application and we have lots of practising consultant guest lecturers to tell us about their roles and career paths. I have particularly enjoyed the consultancy projects we have undertaken, including the Leaders’ Challenge (which I really recommend), which provide valuable and accurate experience of consultancy work.
I also really like the small class sizes and interactive aspect of our lectures and seminars. I came from a very large undergraduate class and often felt disengaged and disconnected from the material. The format of classes on my MSc course is far more engaging and interesting, and I feel like I have learned a lot this year.

What are your career aspirations?

When I finish the course I hope to get a junior role in an organizational psychology consultancy and begin working towards Chartership. I have not ruled out a PhD in the future but want to enter the working world first. Eventually I hope to become a Chartered organizational psychologist working in a human factors or change management consultancy.

What has been your experience of the facilities, the staff, your peers, the city of Leeds and the Yorkshire region?

I’ve had a great experience in Leeds. The city is lively and friendly, and the surrounding Yorkshire countryside is beautiful and perfect for weekend trips. The staff on my course have been very supportive and the atmosphere has been relaxed and personal. The facilities on campus are also faultless.

Are there any experiences outside of your studies that you particularly enjoy?

I have really enjoyed getting involved in some of the University’s sport clubs and the social life that entails. As I am on a one-year MSc I did not plan to get involved in many extracurricular activities, but it has been a great way to unwind and has really enhanced my experience. I would encourage any other MSc students with reservations to try one of the clubs the University offers. Beyond this, Leeds’ nightlife is great and a year does not feel long enough to experience it all!

Would you recommend the Business School to others who are considering studying here?

Without a doubt, definitely.
