How did you hear about the Business School and why did you choose to study here?
I heard about Leeds University Business School from my classmate in Taiwan. I chose to study here because the ranking of the Marketing program is really high and the University of Leeds is a well-established and famous university in England.
What is the best part of your studies? What are you enjoying the most?
The best part of my studies is working with real businesses. For my current project my group is analysing real data from an American consumer credit reporting agency and selecting relevant marketing strategies and consumer behaviours to drive insights for the company in order to increase the sales. It is challenging but exciting.
What are your career aspirations? Do you think the experience and skills you will gain on your course will help you in your future career plans? In what way?
Yes, of course. There are lots of companies in the world that have so much data that it cannot be analysed properly. After gaining practical skills from this course, it is easier for me to use the big data that companies own to generate marketing strategies, communications and plans to expand the market, attract more customers also find ways to retain them.
Do you have any noteworthy achievements from your study at the Business School that you can tell us about eg prizes, highest scores etc?
Yes, I attended the "codefirstgirls" one semester workshops and training for eight weeks during the time of my study. Codefirstgirls is an organization founded to teach women how to code. This opportunity is held by Leeds Data Science Society. My group won the first place in the competition with "Share-Kitchen" the website that we made for this competition and for all the international students in Leeds to connect with each other through cooking together, sharing the recipe.
What is your impression/experience of the facilities, the staff, your peers, the student union, the City of Leeds and the Yorkshire region?
All the staff at Leeds University Business School are very talented, hardworking and willing to help. The student union holds exciting events from a one day trip to Cambridge to Fruity night club. The city is very convenient for whatever you want to do, yet also beautiful.
What would you say your defining memory of studying here was? (eg friendships made, confidence in your abilities, or any single event that you will always remember?)
I have started to organise my time and schedule more carefully, and now I take advantage of more resources on my own. I have also built strong friendships with flatmates and classmates.
The thing that I will always remember and I can vividly recall is the first formal presentation that I had for semester one. I stood on the stage and confidently showed the whole class the data analysis model that we made. Lots of friends took pictures for me and they were all very interested in our model. It is a very good memory of mine.
Would you recommend the Business School to others who are considering studying here?
Definitely, yes.
