Profile

My research broadly focuses on how digital technologies change the nature of work and new modes of organising in the digital era. I am especially interested in understanding reconfiguration of work practices in relation to new digital technologies, and the critical socio-technical challenges that emerge in business and society.

I have conducted research in various settings, ranging from the creative industries such as agile software development and media and broadcasting, to public sector organisations, like UK policing and social housing. To explore technology mediated change in organisations, I apply systems theory and practice-based approaches to capture the interrelation between technology and organisational elements, as well as the historical sociocultural context in which practices are embedded. For example, my recent research used a Strategy as Practice lens to understand how everyday digital strategy practices shape large scale digital transformation outcomes.

I value working closely with industry and I have experience of participatory research through co-design. For example, I have collaborated with several UK police forces in understanding how new technologies shape their work practices and processes and how to improve their services. I have also been involved in industry-academic networks in the creative industries focusing on digital disruption and transformation due to new technologies and network capabilities.

My work has appeared in high quality journals such as Information Systems Journal and the Journal of Strategic Information Systems, as well as in leading conferences like the International Conference on Information Systems.

For potential PhD students: I am currently supervising several PhD students and welcome new students to contact me if their research proposals align with my research area. If you would like to discuss your project idea further, please do not hesitate to get in touch: e.forsgren@leeds.ac.uk
