Professor Gall on BBC Radio Scotland
On 10 September, Professor Gregor Gall, Visiting Professor of Industrial Relations, was featured on BBC Radio Scotland’s Good Morning Scotland, discussing the ongoing British Airways pilots' strike.
Professor Gall compared the BA strike to recent similar strikes from competitors such as Ryan Air, he commented:
“On one hand this is quite an ordinary dispute, it’s about pay, a lack of trust in management and the fear pilots have of dumbing down such a prestigious brand.
However on the other hand, what is unusual is that BA went to the High Court to gain an injunction to stop the strike and after this was rejected the strike still went ahead. It will have cost BA more than £80million in lost profits. What’s unusual is that BA were prepared to suffer such large losses.”
