Global Decent Work Day
To mark Global Decent Work Day 2026, Professor Jonathan Winterton and Professor Peter Boxall explore what makes a job “decent”.
What does decent work mean? What constitutes a good job? In this episode of the Research and Innovation Podcast, Professor Jonathan Winterton (Centre for Employment Relations, Innovation and Change, Leeds University Business School) and Professor Peter Boxall (University of Auckland) discuss these questions, looking beyond legal minimum standards to consider job security, job quality, fair pay, career development, employee voice, and meaningful work. They discuss the role of learning, workplace relationships, and the impact of AI on the future of work, highlighting how organisations can create jobs that support both individual wellbeing and long-term career growth.
