Industry Experts Inspire First-year Finance Students

This October marked our first ever Leaders in Residence event tailored specifically for students on the BSc Accounting and Finance and BSc Banking and Finance programmes.

Just weeks into their studies, Leeds University Business School’s first-year students had the opportunity to engage directly with industry professionals in a series of mini-mentoring sessions. These sessions offered valuable insights into enhancing commercial awareness, the importance of networking and interpersonal skills, and current issues facing the business world.

We were delighted to welcome representatives from PwC, HSBC, RSM, LGT Wealth Management, Coppice Wealth, Grant Thornton, Barclays, Rothschild, Azets, and Lloyds Banking Group.

Joanna Ye, module leader, shared her thoughts on the event:

It was inspiring to see how engaged our students were in the discussions, asking thoughtful questions and connecting with professionals. I hope the conversations today have sparked new ideas and opportunities for our students as they begin shaping their career paths.

Industry guest and Leeds University Business School alumna Dulcinea De Castro Fernandes, Technical Accounting Advisor at Azets, commented:

“During my time at Leeds University Business School, being part of the Nurturing Talent Mentoring Scheme and having the opportunity to interact with professionals in accounting and finance was very helpful in guiding my career decisions. Because of that experience, I’ve always wanted to give back to LUBS. It was such a great experience to share my experience with the students, and it also provided an opportunity to network with other professionals in the accounting, finance, and banking industries. It was especially lovely to see my accounting and finance tutor again.”

The Business School’s External Engagement Team would like to thank our industry guests for generously sharing their time, experiences, and expertise.
