Making Human Resources (HR) not just fit for purpose, but fit for a future that’s going to be dramatically different

Welcome to the latest On Your Marks networking event, in partnership with Marks & Spencer and the University of Leeds.

This event will look at the changing world of HR and how businesses can develop infrastructures that enable them to be efficient, flexible and collaborative in an increasingly challenging business world. Director of HR, David Guise, will discuss the Smarter Working programme, which is leading culture change and embracing technology to transform the M&S workforce, and why this is so important for the future of the business. 

Professor Mark Stuart, Montague Burton Professor of Human Resources, Director of the Centre for Employment Relations, Innovation and Change (CERIC) and Pro Dean for Research and Innovation at the Business School, will host the event and offer an introduction on how digital technologies are reshaping work, and impacting employers and employees, in a rapidly changing landscape.

About the speaker

David Guise - Director of HR, M&S

David Guise joined M&S as HR Director in October 2016. During his time at the company, David has been responsible for leading a new approach to HR across the business, most significantly the transformational ‘Smarter Working’ programme which is making M&S’s workplace culture more flexible, efficient and collaborative. Following his Politics BA at the University of Exeter, David has developed HR expertise and experience in a range of leading international consumer-facing businesses in a career spanning over 30 years. Prior to joining M&S he was Group HR Director of retailer Woolworths Limited in Australia, having previously been the Group HR Director at Home Retail Group in the UK. David also held a number of senior HR roles within Diageo Plc, where he spent a total of 18 years in roles including Director of Talent and Organisation Strategy. David started his HR career at Ford Motor Company.
