Profile

Since joining Leeds University Business School in 2017, my research has primarily focused on the intersection of strategic management and information systems. My interests include strategy practice, digital strategy and innovation, strategic agility, and open organising, such as open strategy and online communities. I have collaborated with numerous organisations on research and consultancy projects, including Accenture, Deloitte, IBM, CILIP, Microsoft, Wikimedia, Rolls Royce, Centrica, Meta, and the NHS. I hold an Associate Fellow position at the Digital Futures at Work Research Center (Digit) and was the Principal Investigator (PI) on an ESRC funded project with Digit on 'Digital Strategy Work' from 2021-2022.

My publications span several outlets, such as Journal of Strategic Information Systems, Long Range Planning, California Management Review, and Harvard Business Review. In 2020, I co-authored a book on Managing Digital Innovation (Bloomsbury). My contributions also appear in key volumes like the Cambridge Handbook of Open Strategy, Cambridge Handbook of Qualitative Digital Research, and the Elgar Encyclopedia of Strategy as Practice. I am an active presenter at major conferences, including the Academy of Management Annual Meeting, EGOS, the Strategic Management Society Annual Conference, and the International Conference on Information Systems.

In terms of professional engagement, I serve on the Editorial Boards of journals like the Journal of Strategic Information Systems and European Management Review, and act as an Editor for Henry Stewart Talks.  In addition, I have had roles as a conference committee member and track chair. I've also been an Associate Editor for major conferences such as the Academy of Management Annual Meeting and the International Conference on Information Systems and regularly contribute reviews to a wide array of journals.

My work has earned me several awards and fellowships, including the Best Reviewer Award from the Academy of Management in 2021 and European Conference on Information Systems in 2024, and the Dean's Award for Research Excellence – Early Career from the University of Leeds in 2023. I'm also a recipient of the LITE Transformation Fellowship for innovative teaching in Strategic Management.

I teach Strategic Management across various levels, from Undergraduate to Executive Education, and have directed the MSc Global Strategy and Innovation Management program (2017 – 2021). I've been recognised for developing innovative teaching materials and act as a subject matter expert for McGraw Hill, creating case studies and other educational content. I am also a mentor for Laidlaw Scholars.

I currently supervise Management PhD students and welcome prospective PhD candidates to contact me with well-developed proposals aligned with my research interests.
