Profile

Dr Mohammad Faisal Ahammad is a Professor of International Business & Management. He is an active researcher in the field of international business, particularly in the area of cross-border mergers and acquisitions and sustainability of MNEs and SMEs in South Asia including India & Bangladesh.

Professor Ahammad is the Head of International Business Department (Interim) at Leeds University Business School, University of Leeds, UK. 

Professor Ahammad is the Director of James E. Lynch India & South Asia Business Centre (ISABC). ISABC aims to contribute in achieving the Research and Innovation Strategy for the University of Leeds. In this context, ISABC intends to undertake inter and trans-disciplinary research in which expertise across disciplines will be integrated together in order to forge new understanding and new ways of addressing critical sustainability and grand challenges within the context of South Asia.

Professor Ahammad is an Associate Editor of Asian Business & Management. He is a member of the Editorial Board of Journal of World BusinessBritish Journal of Management, Journal of Management Studies and Management International Review. He served as the lead guest editor for the special issues at International Journal of Human Resource Management, Human Resource Management Review, Thunderbird International Business Review, and International Studies in Management & Organisation. Dr Ahammad also served as co-guest editor for the special issues at Management International Review, Journal of Product Innovation Management and Technological Forecasting and Social Change.

Professor Ahammad won the "IBR 2017 Best paper Award" for his paper "Knowledge Transfer and Cross-Border Acquisition Performance - The impact of cultural distance and employee retention" published in International Business Review. The paper by Ahammad et al (2017) “Encouraging Environmental Sustainability through Gender” has been selected as the top 3 papers at Journal of Organisation Behaviour (Wiley) in 2017.

Professor Ahammad won the Inspirational Teaching Award at the Leeds University Business School Partnership Awards 2021 and was further commended at the University level, winning the Overall Leeds Partnership Award 2021 in the staff category. The Leeds Partnership Award is given to those have been deemed to have had an exceptional impact on University life. The award was announced on the Leeds University Union Twitter by the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Leeds.

Prior to joining the University of Leeds, he worked as a Reader at Sheffield Hallam University, UK and as a Senior Lecturer at Nottingham Trent University, UK.

Research interests

Professor Ahammad mainly focuses on the management of Cross Border Mergers & Acquisitions (M&As) and ESG & sustainability in South Asia. In addition, Professor Ahammad explores organisational ambidexterity, resilience and strategic agility in an international context.

His work has appeared in the British Journal of Management, Journal of World Business, International Business Review, Human Resource Management (USA), Journal of Organizational Behavior, International Marketing Review, Journal of Corporate Finance, Journal of Business Research, Energy Strategy Review, R&D Management, Regional Studies, Group & Organisation Management, International Journal of HRM, and elsewhere.
