The rapid rise of Artificial Intelligence (AI) as a Medical Device (AIaMD), particularly Generative AI, is reshaping the medical and biotechnology sectors. While these technologies promise groundbreaking advancements, they also present significant strategic and managerial challenges. Start-ups and large corporations alike must navigate an evolving landscape marked by regulatory complexities, uncertain market dynamics and the need for radical innovation.

Developing AI-powered medical solutions, such as generative diagnostics, autonomous clinical decision-making systems and AI-driven drug discovery, requires not only technological innovation but also effective entrepreneurial strategies and corporate innovation capabilities. Companies must balance product, service and business model innovations while managing regulatory compliance in a sector where health system complexity and stringent oversight play critical roles.

At this event, we will hear from industry leaders in AI-powered medical technology, regulators and academics from Leeds University Business School about the strategic challenges faced in commercialising AIaMD innovations.

Emerging research at Leeds University Business School shows that policy frameworks and regulations alone cannot fully stimulate AI innovation in medtech if managerial and innovation capabilities are not sufficiently developed. Academics and industry professionals will open discussion to solutions, including the exploration of effective integration of technological (AI) and medical expertise, as well as tailored communication of novel technologies to investors, customers and regulators.

AI Meets Medicine: Strategies, Start-ups and Corporate Innovation is aimed at industry professionals from medtech, biotech, pharma, medical supply firms, regulators, policymakers, and academic researchers interested in innovation and AI-driven transformation.
