Dr Peter Gittins

Profile

Peter Gittins is a Lecturer in the Centre for Enterprise and Entrepreneurship Studies within the management department at LUBS. He has a practical working background in farm management, helping to run his family-owned livestock farm in West Yorkshire. Peter has an inter-disciplinary research background exploring ‘Constrained Entrepreneurship in the English Uplands’ as part of his PhD at the University of Huddersfield. Peter’s research interests are centred around agricultural business management, specifically rural entrepreneurship and approaches to strategic management in farming businesses. He undertook his PhD, Postgraduate Certificate in Research Methods (Distinction), MSc Operations and Supply Chain Management (Distinction) and BA (Hons) International Business (First-Class) at Huddersfield Business School. 

Peter has undertaken various teaching responsibilities at the University of Huddersfield (Operations Management, Social Entrepreneurship, Business Creation and Development) and has supervised MSc students in the area of International Business. 

Research interests

Peter has published in various academic journals: Journal of Rural Studies (2022; 2020), International Journal of Entrepreneurship and Innovation (2021), Sentio: an interdisciplinary social science journal. He has won an award at the Institute for Small Business and Entrepreneurship (ISBE) conference in 2019 for the best paper in the Rural Enterprise track: ‘Farm Innovation and Technology Adoption: Drivers, Barriers and Success Factors.’ 

Peter has presented the findings from his research at various conferences, including ISBE (2022; 2021; 2019), the Rural Entrepreneurship Conference (2019; 2021) and the University of Gloucestershire’s Postgraduate Winter School facilitated by the Countryside and Community Research Institute. Student education

I joined LUBS in October 2021 as a Teaching Fellow in the Enhancing Management and Learning Team. in September 2022 I joined the CEES group as a lecturer. I undertake teaching responsibilites at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, supervise at undergraduate, MSc and PhD level, and act as a personal academic tutor.
