Leeds nominated for THE Business School of the Year
Leeds University Business School was shortlisted by the prestigious Times Higher Education (THE) Awards 2021 for Business School of the Year.
The Times Higher Education Awards are often described as the 'Oscars of higher education in the UK'. The winners for 2021 were revealed at a glittering ceremony in London on 25 November 2021. Leeds University Business School was delighted to be shortlisted for the Business School of the Year award.
The Leeds nomination centred on the interdisciplinary Innovation Thinking and Practice module. During the module diverse teams of students develop key innovation and employability skills, while addressing real world innovation challenges set by local, national and international industry partners.
Leeds University Business School was represented at the event by Professor Edgar Meyer, Deputy Dean of Leeds Business School, module leader Tony Morgan and Teaching Fellow Sanaz Sigaroudi.
Professor Meyer commented on the event:
“Although we were narrowly pipped at the post by our West Yorkshire neighbours in Bradford, it was great to see the work of our staff and students celebrated at such a distinguished event.”
Alumnus Charlotte Gray and Ersal Awan also attended the event. Charlotte used the innovation skills she learned during the module to create the new award winning UniMate app and her own start-up company. Ersel is now progressing in a career in industry as a Category Manager at Procter & Gamble. Many students on the programme have commented that the module helped them secure graduate jobs and make a fast start in their new careers. Charlotte commented:
“I was delighted to be able to represent the Business School at the award ceremony. The Innovation Thinking and Practice module made a huge difference to me and helped me jump start my career, giving me the confidence and ideas to create my own start-up.”
It’s a unique module that offers students something really different in their studies and helps them stand-out from the crowd once they’ve graduated.
Tony hightlighted the importance of bringing our programme alumni along to the event:
“This is all about celebrating the achievements of our fantastic students. I was delighted that we could invite some of our alumni, so they could celebrate with us. This shows our commitment to celebrating the achievements of our students and graduates and the important role they continue to have in the developing the reputation of the Business School.”
For me, its seeing the success of our graduates that is the greatest prize of all.
