Dr Bashiri shares wildfire risk management expertise with Government operational researchers

Dr Mahdi Bashiri was invited to speak at an event for operational researchers within the Department for Business, Innovation, Science and Trade.

Dr Mahdi Bashiri, Associate Professor of Supply Chain Analytics and Co-Director of the Centre for Technology, Operations and Supply Chain Analysis (TOSCA), was invited to speak at an event for operational researchers within the Department for Business, Innovation, Science and Trade in London on 22 September 2026.

Speaking at the Civil Service Club, Dr Bashiri presented his research on wildfire risk management, with a focus on asset protection. His presentation explored the challenges of managing wildfire risks across prevention, preparedness, response and recovery, and highlighted how analytics and optimisation techniques can support decision-making, resource allocation and routing under uncertain conditions.

The presentation also demonstrated how operations research (OR) methodologies can be applied to wildfire risk management, including through research undertaken by Dr Bashiri. By bringing these approaches to an audience of operational researchers working within government, the engagement highlighted how analytical methods can support more effective planning and decision-making around wildfire resilience and asset protection.
