Over 250 alumni join events in China to explore AI, brand activism and cultural trends
In January 2025, the Business School hosted a successful series of alumni events in Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou, bringing together over 250 alumni across the three cities.
Professor Aristeidis Theotokis, Professor of Marketing, delivered an insightful presentation on the evolving nature of global consumer behaviour. He explored the transformative impact of artificial intelligence, the rise of brand activism, and cultural shifts shaping modern markets. Offering actionable strategies, he emphasised how companies can adapt to these trends and build stronger connections with audiences.
Alumni found the event highly relevant to their professional challenges, actively participating in discussions by sharing personal experiences and contributing to conversations about culture’s role in marketing and the practical applications of AI.
The events attracted alumni from a wide range of disciplines, spanning recent graduates to those who completed their studies 10 – 15 years ago. Many reflected fondly on their time at the Business School, with one alumnus sharing, “This event made me nostalgic—not just for Leeds and the UK, but also for being a student with such amazing professors.”
Reflecting on the events, Professor Aristeidis Theotokis shared, "After 14 years at Leeds University Business School, my first-ever trip to China for the alumni events made me truly appreciate what an amazing alumni community we have. Presenting my research on consumer response to AI and the role of culture, and discussing it with alumni, was an incredible experience. I had the chance to reconnect with my students from over a decade ago and engage with more than 250 dynamic alumni across Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangzhou. A heartfelt thank you to everyone who made these events so special!"
Yi Li from the Business School’s alumni team, expressed her gratitude for the success of the events: “I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to all the alumni volunteers who made these events possible and a huge thank you to all our attendees. It’s been wonderful to reconnect, hear life updates, and celebrate the strength of our alumni community together.”
Many attendees expressed a strong connection to the Business School and a keen interest in becoming more involved in its alumni network.
The Business School looks forward to hosting similar events in the future to strengthen our global alumni community, so keep checking our website for our latest events, news and updates and see how you can get involved.
