Call for Papers: CERIC Doctoral Conference 2024

CERIC warmly invites postgraduate researchers at all stages to submit abstracts for in person or online presentations to the 2024 CERIC Doctoral Conference - ‘Globalisation and the Future of Work'

The Centre for Employment Relations, Innovation and Change (CERIC) warmly invites postgraduate researchers at all stages to the 2024 CERIC Doctoral Conference - ‘Globalisation and the Future of Work’, which will be held on Monday May 20, 2024, in a hybrid mode.

CERIC, based at the University of Leeds, is one of the largest interdisciplinary groups of social scientists working in the field of work and employment in the UK, and the Doctoral Conference has, for over a decade, provided a supportive and engaging environment for postgraduate researchers across the UK, and internationally, to share their work.

In today's rapidly evolving global economy, the dynamics of labour and employment are undergoing profound transformations. Technological advancements, demographic shifts, and geopolitical changes are reshaping the way we work, the nature of jobs, and the relationships between employers and employees. Globalisation has brought unprecedented opportunities for economic growth, innovation, and interconnectedness, but it has also given rise to new challenges and disruptions in the world of work. The theme of this year's conference, ‘‘Globalisation and the Future of Work’’, reflects our commitment to exploring the multifaceted impacts of globalisation on employment relations, and anticipating the trends that will shape the future of work.

Our objective at the conference is to present ground-breaking new postgraduate research, foster meaningful dialogue, exchange innovative ideas, and inspire action that will shape the future of work in a globalised economy.

We look forward to charting a course towards a more inclusive, equitable, and sustainable future for all workers, regardless of where they live or what they do. Therefore, we warmly welcome abstracts from postgraduate researchers at all stages who wish to present their work either online or in person. Applicants are encouraged to submit abstracts for presentations related to:

  1. The impact and implications of globalisation on work, as well as the limits and gaps of globalisation;
  2. Inequalities, diversity and inclusion (e.g., ethnicity, migration, disability, age, gender, and class) in the workplace;
  3. The future of employment relations (e.g., the evolving role of labour unions, worker voice and representation, and collective bargaining);
  4. Human resource management, organisational behaviour, and work practices.

The conference has an interdisciplinary focus; therefore, applicants from industrial relations, human resource management, organisational behaviour, labour law, critical political economy, and any related disciplines are welcome to submit abstracts.

Deadline for abstract (300 words) submission: Extended to Friday April 26, 2024.

Notification of acceptance: Monday May 6, 2024.

The abstract submission can be made via email cericphd@leeds.ac.uk

CERIC is pleased to award three prizes, consisting of £300 for first place, £200 for second place, and £100 for third place, to cover attendance at a leading conference of the PhD students’ choice.
