The purpose of this two-day British Academy of Management (BAM) conference is to review the development of corporate governance and corporate governance-related research and debate the most acute issues confronting academics, practitioners and policy-makers in a rapidly-changing political, social and economic landscape. 

Who should attend:

• All academics and practitioners engaged in research in the fields of governance and corporate governance
• Educators in both the public and private sectors with a responsibility to train students in the disciplines of corporate governance and corporate social responsibility
• Practitioners whose systems of professional ethics require them to be aware of the latest developments in the field of corporate social responsibility
• Policy-makers who develop and promulgate codes of corporate governance and practice

Professor Geoffrey Wood 

Topic: Long Energy Transitions, Corporate Governance and the Firm

Professor Geoffrey Wood is Dean and Professor of International Business, at Essex Business School. Previously he was Professor of International Business at Warwick Business School, UK. He has authored/co-authored/edited sixteen books, and over one hundred and sixty articles in peer-reviewed journals. Previously he was Professor of International Business at Warwick Business School, UK. He holds honorary positions at Griffith and Monash University in Australia, and Witwatersrand and Nelson Mandela Universities in South Africa. Geoff’s research interests centre on the relationship between institutional setting, corporate governance, firm finance, and firm level work and employment relations.
Geoffrey Wood is Editor in Chief of the British Journal of Management, the Official Journal of the British Academy of Management (BAM). He also serves on the BAM Council. He is also Co-Editor of the Annals of Corporate Governance and Associate Editor of Academy of Management Perspectives.
He is also editor of the Chartered ABS Journal Ranking list.
He has had numerous research grants, including funding councils (e.g. ESRC), government departments (e.g. US Department of Labour; UK Department of Works and Pensions), charities (e.g. Nuffield Foundation), the labour movement (e.g. the ITF) and the European Union.
 

Professor Timothy Devinney

Topic: Hard versus Soft Governance: Why the Latter Matters More?

Timothy Devinney (BSc CMU; MA, MBA, PhD Chicago) is Professor, University Leadership Professor, and Pro Dean of Research and Innovation at the University of Leeds. He has held positions at the University of Chicago, Vanderbilt, UCLA and the Australian Graduate School of Management and been a visitor at many other universities (e.g., CBS, LBS, Humboldt, Hamburg, Trier, Konstanz, Ulm, Frankfurt, BI, HKUST & City University HK). He has published over a dozen books and more than ninety articles in leading journals including Strategic Management Journal, Global Strategy Journal, Management Science, The Academy of Management Review, Journal of International Business Studies, and Organization Science. He is a fellow of the Academy of International Business, the Academy of Social Sciences, the Royal Academy of Arts and is the only management recipient of an Alexander von Humboldt Foundation Research Award, as well as having been a Rockefeller Foundation Bellagio Fellow. He is a past Global Strategy IG Chair, past Chair of the International Management Division of the AOM and the former Editor of AOM Perspectives. He is currently on the editorial board of over a dozen of the leading journals and Director of the SSRN international management network.
