Alumni events in South East Asia shine spotlight on making smarter business decisions
The Business School held alumni events in Thailand, Taiwan and Japan earlier this month, providing graduates with valuable insights in making smarter business decisions.
Dr Richard Hodgett, Associate Professor in Business Analytics and Decision Science at Leeds University Business School hosted this series of alumni events.
Richard discussed how to make smart business decisions and methodologies for making decisions with multiple criteria and uncertainty. He also highlighted some of the projects he was working on with industry and the tools he is developing to support companies in making smarter decisions.
After Richard’s presentation, attendees had the opportunity to network and enjoy refreshments, allowing them to make valuable connections and reminisce about their time at Leeds.
The event in Tokyo was held at Amazon offices, Japan and provided an opportunity for Leeds alumni to connect and network with Amazon employees.
Leeds alumnus, Adam Kassab reflected on the Tokyo event and expressed how much he enjoyed the evening: “It was wonderful to connect with so many people from the University of Leeds. We could feel the special ‘Leeds bond’ we all share, and so many exciting memories of studying at Leeds came back. It was fascinating to hear what people had been doing since graduating. We really enjoyed Dr Richard Hodgett’s presentation and he was a fantastic host. A huge thank you to the LUBS alumni team and colleagues who helped to make the event happen. It has been a great way to kick off the year and connect with fellow alumni”.
Richard said: “The alumni events were an overwhelming success. The animated conversations and laughter made it evident that everyone was thoroughly enjoying themselves. Alumni shared stories of their post-graduate journeys and the diverse and inspiring paths they had taken, from entrepreneurial ventures to senior corporate roles. It was a pleasure to see familiar faces and connect with former students as well as meeting and welcoming new alums that I hadn’t met before. The events focused on teaching structured decision-making approaches, leaving attendees equipped with practical ways for navigating complex and uncertain business decisions. The attendees are already expert decision makers, having selected the University of Leeds to study, nevertheless many commented on how they will use the methods for future personal and professional decisions. I’d like to express my sincere appreciation and gratitude to the alumni and marketing teams for their meticulous organisation. I’d also like to thank Prinn, Juraj, Jimmy, Claire, Elaine, Lilian, Vincent, Shun, Makiko and Adam for their invaluable support during the events”.
The Business School looks forward to hosting similar events in the future to strengthen our global alumni community, so keep checking our website for our latest events, news and updates and see how you can get involved.
