100 Hours For The Planet: A Week That Reminded Us Why It Matters

From China to Portugal, Australia to the UK, the 100 Hours For The Planet campaign truly went global, and honestly, it couldn't have been more wonderful.

Niharika Dsouza, LUBS Sustainability Champion shares her experience of organising our first ever #100hoursfortheplanet campaign.

“It was such a meaningful week, watching our alumni volunteers show up for causes they are truly passionate about. There's something special about seeing people choose to give their time not because they must, but because they care. Right from leading running clubs to donating hair and beach clean-ups along some of the world's most beautiful coastlines, each alumnus contributed in their own unique and wonderful way. No two stories looked the same, and that's exactly what made it so special.

Together, our incredible alumni community hit the 100-hour mark. One hundred hours of volunteering of showing up, of choosing to make a difference. What a milestone to celebrate.

Closer to home, we had a successful LUBS event, where alumni came to Leeds to volunteer in the Sustainable Campus Garden run by the Sustainability Service at the University of Leeds. There was weeding, there was laughter and taste-testing of different plants and flowers straight from the garden. It was one of those afternoons that reminds you how grounding it is to simply be outside, working with your hands, in good company.

What struck us most across the week was the sheer breadth of causes our alumni chose to champion. Volunteers contributed towards the UN Sustainable Development Goals including Quality Education, Gender Equality, Good Health and Well-being, Sustainable Cities and Communities, Reduced Inequalities, and Responsible Consumption and Production. A reminder that sustainability isn't one thing but it's everything, and our alumni understand that deeply.

What a wonderful thing to be part of. If you'd like to stay connected with the LUBS alumni community and learn more, you can find us at the LUBS Alumni website. Thank you to every single volunteer who gave their time, energy, and heart to this campaign. You made it what it was.”
