Alumni’s inspiring career journeys highpoint of Lagos networking event

Business School alumni recently came together for a networking evening in Lagos, Nigeria on Thursday 13 July 2023.

The event provided an opportunity for old and new graduates to reconnect, reminisce about their time at Leeds, and enhance their professional network. The evening was hosted by University of Leeds Country Manager in Nigeria, Oyedapo Oyeyemi and was attended by alumni from the Business School and across the wider University.

Vibrant conversations filled the room throughout the evening as people shared their experiences, memories, and achievements from their careers and their time at Leeds. One of the highlights was hearing the career stories from alumni speakers:

  • Tosin Ibikunle (MBA 2007), Assistant General Manager at Standard Chartered Bank spoke about his personal growth and development.
  • Ettu Akeem (MBA 2012) emphasised the importance of networking and relationships in his career, citing examples of what he has achieved in his career and business through building effective relationships. He encouraged all alumni to play an active role in the Leeds alumni community moving forward.
  • Adanna Enwezor (MSc Global Development and Africa, 2011), Founder of African Hair Summit, explained how she has been able to expand her project over the last three years, and how she has been acknowledged for her work through professional accolades.
  • Dr Fatimah Habeebu-Adeyemi (MPH Public Health, 2017), a consultant with Evercare Hospital in Lagos revealed how she has opened her own specialist hospital in Lagos. She highlighted the importance of her University of Leeds education and how it has played a part in her career and achievements. She stressed the importance of maintaining relationships through networking opportunities among fellow alumni to achieve better results across career and business.

The evening was a great success, and those that attended really enjoyed connecting with each other and sharing their stories.
