University Business School launches Slow Travel Policy
Leeds University Business School has announced the implementation of a new Slow Travel Policy aimed at reducing the carbon footprint associated with business travel by 50% by 2030.
The policy represents a significant step in the University's commitment to achieving net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2030, as outlined in its Climate Plan and the Business School’s Sustainability Blueprint.
Sustainability and climate change mitigation are central to the School’s strategic vision, with initiatives such as the Slow Travel Policy reflecting our commitment to making a positive impact on the economy, society, and the planet.
Key aspects of the policy are requests that when travelling for business*, staff:
- Do not fly within the UK
- Avoid flights to destinations that can be reached by rail within 11 hours and instead choose slow travel methods (coach, rail, ferry etc).
- Reduce long-haul flights where possible
- Do not take first class or business class flights
(*Except for reasonable adjustments and exceptions).
