Professor Gregor Gall speaks on Good Morning Scotland

Visiting professor of industrial relations, Gregor Gall discusses the situation surrounding strike action in Scotland.

Speaking on Good Morning Scotland on 26 November 2022, Professor Gregor Gall talks about why strikes are occurring across the country.

In the public sector, there is an additional factor: for at least a decade there has been a programme of austerity whereby the level of resources put into public services is not as high as the workers believe it should be.

During the segment, it is addressed that though many workers do not want to be striking, often it feels like they have no choice:

Workers have very few options other than to accept what they’ve been offered or go on strike. That is one of the problems with the system of industrial relations in Britain. There is no system of arbitration that exists elsewhere.
