The University of Leeds has collaborated with IBM to create a free online professional development course in Innovation Management.

Innovation Management: Winning in the Age of Disruption is aimed at anyone with an active interest in innovation who wishes to gain a better understanding of the subject. 

This short, two-week course gives participants a rare opportunity to learn how successful organisations like IBM manage innovation to disrupt markets and achieve business advantage. 

Now in its second run, this popular online resource showcases real life examples, including case studies from IBM, to give you a better understanding of: 

  • How to tackle challenges to innovation management
  • How to develop an innovation strategy that ensures you continuously innovate in your core business
  • Latest design thinking and open innovation frameworks
  • How to protect your innovative ideas.

Professor Krsto Pandza of Leeds University Business School welcomed IBM's role in this free online course: “The main takeaways from this course are to understand and manage innovation strategically, to learn from examples of how IBM manage innovation processes and get familiar with a tool that will help to analyse your current innovation capabilities and identify any gaps.”

IBM contributions have been led by Tony Morgan, Executive Architect and Industry Technical Leader at IBM and RAEng Visiting Professor in Innovation at the University of Leeds. Tony Morgan said, “IBM is a disrupter; we’re doing new things like cognitive computing and IBM Watson, which is creating totally new ways of doing things. The focus of this course is really about the practical application of some tools, techniques and processes, to be able to improve the way you drive and manage innovation in your own business or organisation.”

The course begins on Monday 25 September and participants commit to a minimum of 4 hours each week. The course is designed to be fully online and flexible, so participants can study at any time convenient to them. 

As a CPD-accredited course, participants will gain a CPD-accredited certificate on completion, which can enhance your CV and demonstrate understanding of innovation management.
